TECH FORCE PELLETS
We first mentioned the new Chinese pellets in the article on the (Tech Force) 89 bullpup carbine that was featured in the August '98 issue. At that time, it was mentioned that these pellets shot better in the (TF)89 than any other brand we tried, and we commented on how uniform they looked in the tin (which is actually a round plastic container). As it turns out, these pellets have never been seen before outside China. They are made by a different factory than the one that makes the poor pellets everyone is used to. These pellets have apparently been used by the Chinese National team for years. The factory has now increased production so they will be able to export pellets to the U.S. where Compasseco is the exclusive importer. There are actually two weights of Chinese wadcutters, and we tried them both. The green label is on the 530 mg heavy pellets, while the blue label is on the 500 mg lights. According to these numbers, they should weigh 8.2 grains and 7.7 grains, respectively, but my RCBS 1010 scale puts the heavies at 8.6 grains and the lights at 7.6 grains. They are about as uniform and consistent as the finest European bulk-packed target pellets. Besides the outstanding performance, which we found to be equivalent to the H&N Match and the RWS R10 in the Chameleon, these new pellets cost just $6.95 plus shipping per tin of 500. Compare that to over $8.00 (and often over $9.00) for the other two brands, and you'll see the advantage. Compasseco also has domed and pointed field pellets from the same company. Prices are the same as for the wadcutters. We'll evaluate these other pellets in the future.
